It is what it is

The Seattle area has a not-entirely-deserved reputation for rain. (Today it's living up to that reputation; long sheets of rain are coming down.) The truth is, most days it just looks like it's going to rain, with grey, brooding watercolor skies. My dear father-in-law shakes his head in bemusement over our love for this area, especially in winter. He grew up in the arid-hot, blue Southwest and thinks the near-constant overcast from fall to spring would drive him insane. He's not sure how we make it through the Northwest winters without slitting our wrists.

Here's the truth:

There is no autumn tree so bright with color, nor spring branch in bud so glorious, as that seen against the backdrop of a grey Seattle sky.

Now it's time for me to live up to my reputation and fold up a bleach load. Ta!

That red looks so beautiful against the greens and other colours.

Beautiful picture and poetic words.

The first year we lived here we had over 90 days with absolutely no sun, and rain every day of that. That was not so fun. Luckily, that is apparently unusual.
