CM update #2

OK, so if you don't follow me on Facebook, a quickie update on Captain Midnight.

Short version: he's doing pretty well, as far as we can tell. He had a half-dozen atrial fibrillation episodes on Friday morning and a single one today, none more than about 10 seconds long. Other than these, he's felt well; he took a walk this morning and did a bit of driving today. I've kept him away from the chocolate and Mountain Dew, and let him sleep as much as he can. And he's slept quite a lot, probably at least in part due to caffeine withdrawal.

Some blood test results came back from the lab. No potassium deficiency, but he does appear to have some liver enzymes running free in his blood (this can happen when the liver or other major internal organs have sustained some damage). He was cautioned to stay away from alcohol... heh... as a Mormon, this shouldn't be overly difficult for him.

The cardiologist has CM's Holter monitor and heart journal, and will be analyzing the monitor readings this weekend. On Monday afternoon he goes in for an echocardiogram.

I've read up as much as I can about atrial fibrillation, which is mostly a good thing. On Thursday I was convinced he might keel over of a heart attack at any moment, which now seems unlikely. Even though a-fib is no walk in the park, of all the heart arrhythmias it's the most easily controllable. I'm a lot more optimistic than I was on Thursday morning.

We'll just have to see what happens next. Meanwhile, if you'd like to do something, we'd very much appreciate your prayers and general good thoughts.

Thanks. Very much appreciated.

CM seems to be doing well today--no incidents so far.
