A princess who loves insects

Miss V was working in the front yard today, pulling weeds...

...when she found this little guy.

He seems to be some sort of isopod -- possibly a woodlouse -- and looks like a tiny trilobite.

Miss V, who loves big bugs, let him run around on her hands for a while and had me take a few pictures.

Yes, we're apparently raising NausicaƤ.

Our generic term for them is baker bugs for some reason.

In California we mainly had the type that rolled up into a ball when disturbed, and we called them pillbugs.

Useless trivia moment: woodlice are more closely related to crustaceans (shrimp and crabs) than they are insects. The things you learn from Wikipedia.
