Today my mom is having surgery on one of her feet. It isn't the first time this has happened. She has Charcot foot, thanks to years of dealing with diabetes, and fortunately has a podiatrist who knows quite a lot about how to treat cases of Charcot. Today he's going to try loosening her Achilles tendon and see whether the problem resolves itself over time. If that doesn't work, he will operate to stabilize the bones of her foot. To give you a better idea of how awesome he is, a decade or less ago the most common medical "fix" for this problem was amputation.
If you pray, would you keep my mom in your prayers today? If you don't pray, would you send good wishes and thoughts in her general direction? I'm sure she would appreciate both.
ETA: Mom is back from surgery, a little groggy and with a sore throat, but her doctor thinks it went well. She could use some help around the house since she can't put any weight on her foot, so it looks like I'll be flying out to Utah on Monday. Frequent flyer miles to the rescue!
