Serendipitous travel goodness

THANK YOU, obnoxious cabin crew going on strike at British Airways! You just saved me over $100 in travel costs.

See, today British Airways announced that they wouldn't be able to tell us for sure whether our flight was cancelled until the 22nd, a week from today and less than a week from the time we were supposed to be flying. I saw this, and I decided, "Screw it, I'm getting a refund." At the same time I started looking for another flight, fully expecting we wouldn't be able to afford the difference in price.

If I hadn't been pressured into looking for another flight thanks to the strike, I never would have known about several flights with different airlines that were actually cheaper than the fare I'd booked with British Airways. So I've cancelled the BA flight and have booked another one with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (as we all know, you ain't much if you ain't Dutch).

Now you can imagine me celebrating by doing a happy travel dance with a virtual hundred dollars in my hands, laughing and mocking British Airways as I do so. Hee hee hee, thpbhpthpt. And unless they start pulling similar shenanigans at KLM, this means not only is the trip to England definitely on again, but we're actually staying an extra day!

Oh thank the Good Lord of holidays! I did wonder why you were going with BA, as they are one of our most expensive airlines (that's to pay for the cushy work packages the staff get, that they don't think are good enough, hence the strike).

I am so pleased, I hope this means we get to hug in real life!

That's the plan!

Originally I went with BA simply because they were having a fare sale. "Sale" being a subjective term in this case, I suppose. (The moral of our story: Mama said you betta shop around.)
