Life is a banquet

Jenny is here right now. She hitched a ride with us and we've been goofing around in the area. (Yesterday we went to Cafe Campagne for lunch on Bastille Day... mmm, revolucious.)

After our recent adventures in driving I had pretty much decided to stay put for a while, but apparently fate has other experiences in store instead, because yesterday I got a call from my mom. Aunt Nell died.

If you've ever seen the Rosalind Russell version of Auntie Mame, you have a pretty good idea of what my Aunt Nell was like. She was vivacious, outspoken, irreverent, entertaining and hilarious -- and the feisty old bird lived life to the hilt. During the course of her 83 years, she performed as a torch singer, left her faith and returned to it again, was married/divorced/widowed so many times most of us gave up keeping track of her current surname, and told life stories that would make you snort beverage through your nose, if you were unlucky enough to be drinking one at the time. She'll be sorely missed.

Anyway, I'm flying down to the Bay Area at the end of next week to attend her funeral. This is shaping up to be a busy travel year, no?
