I'm not an artist...

One of the Five Random Facts posted on this blog when it was new was the declaration, "I'm not an artist, but I play one on TV." I have no artistic training and I know it. Playing around with calligraphy, doodling in the margins of papers, and practicing full-contact origami do not equal art.  Not even if you mix them all together with an eggbeater.

Wheeee!
So why in the name of all that's holy do I agree to work on projects that were meant to be completed by real artists? You know, people with actual training and talent under their belts?

Many months ago, my sisters started an Indiegogo campaign to help pay for my cousin David's heart surgeries. We decided we'd need to offer a perk or two to encourage people to contribute, and to that end I agreed to make some artwork for note cards.

Can someone explain to me why I promised to do this?  'Cause, yeah, STILL not an artist. Now my sister is waiting on me to get this project done, and I've been dawdling over it for ages because, frankly, my contribution is going to be embarrassing.

At least when I'm done with the "art" I promised to make, I can heave a sigh of relief and go back to guilt-free writing.

The longer and more vehemently you deny it, you assume the less true it will be. But nothing could be further from the truth.
